The Baby Today

Zion has been telling everyone ever since we told her about the baby that it is coming tomorrow! Well yesterday we had a difficult situation because she somehow got the impression that the baby was coming TODAY! After consideration Travis and I decided to pursue getting a doula to be with us for the birth of this baby. We are excited to have someone with us to help us with the process and to navigate the hospital with us especially because we were not able to have the baby at the birth center we originally chose because of issues with our health insurance.

A doula service was recommended to us by the birth center where I started my prenatal care and we contacted them. So yesterday we were on our way to Eat N Park to meet our doula for the first time who also happens to be a social worker. We were explaining to Zion that we were going to meet her and that she was going to help us when we went to the hospital to have the baby. Zion of course asked a lot of questions about what she was going to do and why and we tried to give her some simple answers. We then had a nice visit with the doula over dinner and Zion was very patient. She happens to totally love Eat N Park. Then we said goodbye and walked out to the parking lot.

Zion then stopped dead in the middle of the parking lot and the wailing ensued. Finally we got her to talk and she said "wait, wait, she forgot to get the baby out!!!" We then realized after talking to her that she was under the impression that she was going to help us get the baby TODAY! Poor sweet Z, she was so disappointed but so cute! It took us awhile to console her by talking about our upcoming vacation and her birthday which are going to happen before the baby comes.

FYI if you are not familiar with what a doula is:

The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.

I'm so happy you are using doula and sorry that the birth center was not an option. Can you find a midwife who will deliver in a hospital (Coral Springs did that for us and that is how we were able to have Rose in water with a midwife there). Also, I keep meaning to ask, do you have Zion in any school for part of the day or do you still spend all day with her? If so, how do you come up with enough activities/stimulation for her at home?
