Zs Big Girl Room

Its hard to see in the picture but these curtains have fake little flowers sewn on to them. My mom found them at a yard sale and I think they are pottery barn. They look perfect and Zion loves them.
We have been working on slowly putting Zions room together and now its pretty much done. One evening we put in her completed bed and dresser and curtains and surprised her. Here she is coming in to check it out. The bed we found on craigslist and we went to buy it and the lady was super sweet and gave it to us for free! What a blessing! Then Travis found a mattress and boxspring in someones trash (okay if you are grossed out it was friends of ours and they said it was perfectly fine) and its great! Then I found a wooden dresser at an estate sale fo $15! Travis painted the dresser and the bed white and was very meticulous about it so they look great and the white looks pretty with the lavender.

Enjoying her surprises and showing off a painting she made!

Trying out the new bed. The beadspread I found a long time ago in the as is section at ikea. The bedspread was $4 and the duvet cover was $2. I found the throw pillow at Gabriels here for a few dollars two and I saved them.

She has cute little flower hooks that my mom found for her wall to hang her bag and jacket.

Family Iron Chef

Lately somehow we have started having a family iron chef contest. This is our 3rd attempt. We are given an ingredient about a week before the day we will be eating together and eveyone in the family makes a dish highlighting that ingredient. The past two times we did it we the ingredient was lentils and then bananas. Those were both quite good but this one was pretty impressive............the ingredient was PEPPERS, any kind of pepper. Nana and Papa came and Nanas contribution was the above artwork!
Tim made Jalapeno corn bread that also had like three other types of pepper in it and it was quite good. He had some crazy name he made up for them but it escapes me now.

Ashley made mushroom pepper crepes. It inspired me to try making crepes sometime.

Abbey made a pepper peach chutney.

Travis made roasted red peppers with fresh mozarella lemon and oregano on the grill. The lemon sounded odd to me but it was really tasty!

My mom made Chili stuffed peppers!

AND the winner ta da......Rachel....She definitely racked up the points on presentation but it was really tasty too. It was a yellow and orange pepper soup which really just highlighted the taste of the peppers. It was awesome.
I did not get pictures of mine or Dougs. Doug made pepper choo choo macaroni and cheese and I was really excited about mine which was a Jalapeno popper stuffed with cream and cheddar cheese wrapped in bacon.....not exactly healthy but I figured I couldn't go wrong on taste!

Miss Zion

Okay what a great Dad. Zion really wanted her dad to paint her nails and he did it and did a great job!
Zion LOVES her new room especially her "castle" which was a Christmas gift from her Grandma and Granpa Schenk that we saved for her new room. She loves hanging out in there and if you come to visit she will invite you in.
